SUMMARY 

The position is responsible for conducting examinations to assess financial sector compliance with regulatory requirements.  

  

ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Conducts research, gathers and analyses information from a variety of internal and external sources.  

  • Identifies risks, themes and/or systemic issues and contributes to the development of financial institutions market conduct risk assessment.  

  • Analyses data (structured, unstructured, qualitative, and qualitative) and produces reports and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau.   

  • Makes recommendations regarding the subject, approach, and scope of risk-based examinations.  

  • Carries out desk-based and/or on-site examinations by conducting interviews, gathering and evaluating documentary evidence in accordance with examination plan, audit procedures, and legislative requirements.  

  • Prepares written reports on examination results.  

  • Encourages voluntary compliance during examinations, identifies opportunities to educate industry participants and reinforce good business practices that align with regulatory expectations.  

  • Supports formal regulatory intervention or enforcement action and testifies at regulatory, tribunal, and other hearings.   

  • Participates and contributes to market conduct strategic initiatives, special projects and working groups.  

  • Participates in the development, and ongoing evaluation of market conduct examination program and contributes to the development of market conduct processes and practices.  

  • Builds and maintains constructive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders focused on enhancing the BCFSA’s reputation and credibility.  

  • Actively contributes to developing the corporate culture and employee engagement by implementing and practicing the BCFSA’s core values.  

  

JOB REQUIREMENTS  

  • 3+ years of experience in an audit, analytical, risk management, or similar role in the financial services sector.  

  • This position requires a high degree of self-motivation, attention to detail, strong financial and critical thinking skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work within established deadlines.   

  

RELATED EXPERIENCE  

  • Experience conducting examinations in the financial services sector, preferably in the insurance sector.   

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and/or policies governing the regulatory program or similar regulatory programs.  

  • Knowledge of insurance company practices and products.  

  • Knowledge of risk management principles and methodologies.  

  • Knowledge and experience of data analytics, including dashboarding and visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.  

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, initiative, and discretion.  

  • Superior oral and written communication skills.  

  • Knowledge of audit/examinations principles. with a good understanding of audit and examination principles and practices.  

  

EDUCATION  

  • Degree in business, public administration, law, or accounting and some related experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
