SUMMARY
The position is responsible for providing legal advice in relation to the financial services sectors regulated by BCFSA, including advice relating to compliance, regulatory, licensing and disciplinary matters, and in relation to BCFSA’s own legal matters, including contracts, claims, privacy matters and freedom of information.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

Research and provide legal opinions on compliance, regulatory, licensing and disciplinary matters relating to credit unions, trust companies, pension funds, insurance, real estate brokerages and agents, mortgage brokerages and agents, real estate development, strata developments and money services businesses.

Analysis and interpretation of regulatory statutes within the authority of BCFSA.

Drafting of regulatory statements, briefing notes, policies, memoranda, correspondence and other documents.

Provide support and advice on legal issues relating to privacy law and access to information.

Review and revision of and advise on contracts and procurement documents.

Conduct legal analysis and evaluation of claims and litigation.

Monitor regulatory developments and prepare updates for management and business teams.

Contribute to the legal team’s development of internal work practices (e.g., policies, procedures, and tools).

Contribute to, participate in, and support organizational business transformation initiatives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
-
One to three years of legal experience, preferably in regulatory, compliance, administrative, corporate or commercial law.

Knowledge of regulatory and administrative laws and regulations.
-
Knowledge of FOIPP Act.

Strong analytical, problem-solving and legal research skills.
-
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
-
Strong organizational skills.
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
-
Sound judgement and attention to detail.
EDUCATION
-
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of BC.
