SUMMARY 

The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for leading and executing on financial projects, satisfying compliance obligations, performing complex reconciliations, redesigning business processes, and implementing system improvements to optimize BCFSA’s financial performance.  

 

This role entails full-cycle accounting responsibilities to enhance the effectiveness of BCFSA’s financial operations. These efforts are critical in contributing to the organization’s mission to promote confidence in British Columbia's financial services sector by providing risk-based and proportional regulation and protecting the public. 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Generates and executes on project plans to provide operational oversight of new and existing processes and guidelines.    

  • Performs complex financial reconciliations with accuracy, ensuring compliance with established standards.  

  • Approves cost allocations, ensuring transparency and accountability. Approves payments issued. 

  • Calculates and issues financial and operating metrics. 

  • Reviews audit working papers, processes, and documentation with external auditors upon request. 

  • Generates compliant and accurate financial statements and remittance filings. 

  • Evaluates existing business processes and recommends redesign and improvements to improve workflows. 

  • Contributes to the implementation of financial systems and technologies. 

  • Creates reports for senior leadership to assist in strategic decision making. 

  • Develops and maintains constructive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Provides supervision, coaching, and mentorship to allow team members to achieve their full potential. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in financial management and accounting. 

  • Expertise in full-cycle accounting and auditing. 

  • Financial information system implementation experience (e.g. SAP, Sage, Workday, Oracle), either as a subject matter expert or a project leader. 

  • A problem-solver and a critical thinker, able to redesign and transform business processes to improve operational performance. 

  • Proficient at prioritizing tasks without compromising accuracy, quality, or deadlines. 

  • Strong business acumen, able to connect the dots through ambiguity. 

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision. 

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. 

 

EDUCATION 

  • Bachelor's degree in commerce (BCom), Arts (BA), Science (BSc) or Business (BBA)  

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.   

 

CERTIFICATIONS 

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or passing of CPA’s Common Final Examination (CFE) required.
